Plenary Lecture 1: From “green roofs” to “living roofs”, they are here to stay forever

Gabriel Pérez, University of Lleida, Spain
Dr. Gabriel Pérez is Associate Professor and Director of the Department of Industrial and Building Engineering at the University of Lleida. His academic qualifications are PhD from Polytechnic University of Catalonia (2010), in the PhD program “Research in energy and environment for Architecture” and, Agronomist Engineer from University of Lleida (1995).
His main areas of research refer to the use of green infrastructure in the urban environment as a tool to provide ecosystem services both at building and urban scales.
Specifically, he has studied the use of green roofs and vertical greening systems to improve the thermal and acoustic insulation of buildings, as well as the reduction of the urban head island (UHI) effect and the urban noise in cities. Other developed research topics are related to sustainable construction and the environmental impact of the building sector.
